City College of San Francisco Announce a Free Food Market

The City College of San Francisco started a free food market.

They call it for “Students in need”, but honestly most of the students are “in need”.

A study in 2017 estimate that 44 percent of the City College student population had a problem eating. They call it “food insecure”. They surveyed 1100 students from the English classes.

“We hear every day from students who go hungry and have to make the decision between paying for rent, textbooks, or meals.” said Board of Trustees President Alex Randolph.

So they allocated $10 million to Community Colleges for food.

Basically, they have a food pantry and fresh fruit market at six locations on campus where students can come and get it for free. All funded by the “state’s Hunger Free Campus Support Fund”.

Free food. That is amazing. I don’t get why it had to cost $10 million but this is going to make things much easier for a lot of people. Free food on campus!
